libel and malicious falsehood

We advise and represent clients in cases of libel, slander and malicious falsehood. Disputes of this nature are highly specialised and we have many years of experience of acting for newspapers, book and periodical publishers as well as individuals across the whole range of defamation and reputation management issues.

For claimants, we can help with remedies including an apology or statement in Court, damages and an undertaking not to repeat the words in question. An injunction may also be available in suitable cases. For defendants, we can advise whether the publication is actionable at all, and if so on the best methods of damage limitation.

For businesses, misleading advertising by a competitor or the publication of other damaging material can give rise to a claim for malicious falsehood or trade libel. We are frequently instructed in cases of this kind and can obtain injunctions, damages and undertakings not to repeat.

In suitable cases we may be able to conduct defamation and related claims under a Conditional Fee Agreement.
